I accidentally stumbled into my first CrossFit gym in 2013 and I never looked back. As someone who dabbled in a ton of different sports growing up (ranging from soccer to wrestling to diving) this was the first experience that really stuck. I was hooked by the variety, the intensity, the upbeat music, and the fact that everyone gets cheered for, regardless of whether they hit a PR or just showed up that day.

One of my favorite things about CrossFit is seeing people accomplish something that they never thought was possible. This could be hitting that first pull-up, running a mile faster than they imagined, lifting their body weight above their head, doing their first Murph, and more. That has happened to me more times than I can count, and celebrating the joy of those moments together with other CrossFitters is why we come to the gym every day.

And I found that while people come for the fitness, they ultimately stay for the community. With people experiencing more loneliness and isolation than ever, the gym provides a place to form real relationships. People that you see almost every day, laugh with, chat with, and when times get tough, stand with. Some of my closest friends have come from the CrossFit community, and I love how we get to go through the ups and downs of life together.

I started coaching in 2019 at Commonwealth CrossFit in the Boston area, and after 5 years there I’m excited to continue my coaching journey at CrossFit 718! I live in South Slope with my wife Jen (who also coaches here), our two young kids and our dog. I work as a pastor at a church in Midtown, and I love exploring and enjoying all that NYC has to offer! Hope to see you around the gym.
