Athlete of the Month: December 2016
Jennifer Guerrero
If you love transformation stories, we’ve got a good one for you. Jennifer discovered CrossFit through a six-week fitness challenge in May of this year. After a month and a half of high intensity, constantly varied, functional goodness, she was hooked! She joined the 718 family in July and, since then, she’s basically become the poster gal for transformation. She’s lost over 45 pounds and dropped 4 sizes! Enjoy our Q&A with Jennifer, December’s athlete of the month.
Why do you do CrossFit?
I enjoy the work and I enjoy the people I work out with. They say you should surround yourself with people who make you want to be a better version of yourself, and that’s what the people at 718 inspire me to do every day.
How do you make time for working out?
I’m a huge advocate of work/life balance when it comes to my career. Nothing at work is so important that I can’t take an hour for myself to go to CrossFit. I make a schedule and, for the most part, I stick to it.
What kinds of changes have you noticed since starting CrossFit?
Great question! My energy, strength, and endurance improvements have all been tremendous, and I look forward to improving those every time I step in the box. But my greatest change has been the 45-pound weight loss and dropping almost 4 pant sizes! 🙂
What’s your favorite lift?
I have such a love/hate relationship with thrusters. I think it’s such a cool movement that engages tons of muscles. I’ve never seen someone doing thrusters that looks like anything less than a total badass.
What recent achievement are you most proud of?
Before I started CrossFit, I was trying (unsuccessfully) to be a good runner. CrossFit unlocked running for me and made running something that I think compliments CrossFit so well. So, I completed my third half marathon in October with a 40-minute PR improvement!
What goal are you working on?
Oh, there are just so many! I think most pressing would be double-unders. I still don’t have the coordination required to master those. Second, I would say pull-ups. Once I’ve got the strength to do a pull-up, I’ll be rope climbing and HSPU-ing all day! I also plan to complete my first full Marathon in 2017… So, lots of training for this coming spring.
What’s your Fran time?
8:06 with ring rows. That was back in September, though. I’d still have to do ring rows for now, but I think I can crush that time today.
What do you do when you’re not at the box?
I work in sales for PepsiCo to pay for my CrossFit addiction. In my free time, I run, read, binge watch TV, and play pool/billiards competitively when I can. I moved to New York three years ago from Texas, so I also go back home as often as I can to see family.
