So about six months ago I nonchalantly agreed to participate in a “Team Triathlon” with my father and sister. Then I promptly forgot about it.
Now, not only did I not have any idea when this event was to occur, I also did not realize that in agreeing to participate I had volunteered for the swim.
This week I finally realized, it’s on Saturday.
Now before this seems TOO out of hand, for much of my life I was a competitive swimmer. However, I have not swam competitively in almost 10 years, and have not really swam in any capacity in at least 5 years.
So, rather than participating in the awesome sounding Block Party, I am going to attempt to swim across a lake on Saturday morning.
The reason I’m posting this is:
I do expect I will survive this experience, and for that I thank you CrossFit 718. My overall level of conditioning is the only thing instilling confidence in me at the moment. Otherwise, this would be an epic debacle.
So anyway, enjoy the party everyone! I’ll provide an update on Sunday.
Go Smanik..I have faith that you will in fact survive and live to tell your fellow 718ers the story in person! Have fun and stay sober Friday night!!

Tonight we had a little extra time so Coach Anthony let us WU our OHS and since I wanted to Rx I kinda pushed it and tried for a 1RM in the short time he gave us. 150# (that’s a 10#PR) And I cannot remember the last time we did these, so I feel okay with that…felt good, not crazy hard.
