Athlete of the Month: October 2017
Autumn Neuharth
Autumn Neuharth just joined the box this summer, but she’s already making a big impact on our community. First of all, she’s crushing it. A former rugby player, she brings all of her intensity and team spirit to every WOD. And, as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, she’ll be helping us all move more efficiently by regularly contributing the newsletter’s new Mobility Corner! Check out her tips for full hip extension and learn more about October’s Athlete of the Month!
How did you learn about CrossFit?
A CrossFit box sponsored our rugby team in college, generously doing all our strength and conditioning for free. The partnership didn’t last that long, but the love for barbells was forever.
What kinds of changes have you noticed since starting CrossFit?
I recently retired from rugby, so I’m thankful for a new community of athletes that share core values like putting the team first, strive for better every time, and work hard/play hard.
How do you make time for working out?
Working out is my stress relief and my “treat yo’ self,” so I’m quick to jostle my schedule around for my favorite 5 p.m. class. 🙂
What’s your favorite type of WOD?
Long, hard partner WODs are the best because they remind me of a rugby game (80 minutes of hard work with your friends).
What recent achievement are you most proud of?
Climbed a rope for the first time! It was awesome!
What goals are you working on?
Strict muscle up. And a free-standing handstand. Oh yeah, and double-unders… there’s a lot to work on!
You’ll be working with CrossFit 718 as a mobility expert. What are some of the ways you hope to help 718 athletes?
I hope to provide helpful tidbits to improve mobility (and stability!) via a monthly “Mobility Corner” in the newsletter and also being around for questions. I love talking about movement, so hit me up if you see me in class.
What do you do when you’re not at the box?
I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Up until three months ago, I would’ve said rugby was my main hobby, but now I’ll say my hobby is planning a wedding. Gettin’ hitched next June. 🙂
