The journey that I’ve endured has been one that Crossfit embodies, It was rough and at times and I wondered when would this suffering end, but as I grow wiser I’ve come to realize that we can not control what the world throws at us, yet take that situation or circumstance and learn to grow from it for it only makes us stronger… I started personal training when I was 20 years old, my training experience prior to that was martial arts based and knew little about how our bodies function, let along programming or training. As a child I had little to no participation in physical activity the culture in NYC was one of unhealthy eating habits, smoking cigarettes, and alcohol consumption which was in plain view to my youthful eyes also one that my family unfortunately adopted, eager to help them change, I attempted countless times to make a change in my parents lives as I seen them spiraling downward… The years past, I grew older and understood that this was not only a challenge for me, but a huge challenge for them. As a fitness apprentice at a well known globo-gym, I didn’t receive much support as the company focused primarily on sales and not on development of trainer education and growth. I found the first few years to be a roller coaster ride of observation, research, trial and error, understanding what it actual took to make people successfully healthy without injury and have fun doing it. I then took my new found skills and motivation and focused in on my family, with high aspirations I was sure that I would be successful in aiding them getting back into shape… Unfortunately my life came to a screaming halt as my father had a massive heart attack in front of my own eyes…I could not express the many emotions that ran through my head, yet I remembered the procedure that all trainers must learn which is CPR. I ran grabbed the phone, dialed 911 all while administering CPR… After a short period my father came through unknowing of what had occurred the ambulance came and offered assistance for which he denied… Later that day the situation arised again exactly how the first occurred with the same turn out except he received assistance and changed his life style only for a month or so before falling back into patterns which caused this very incident.Within a years time he had a fatal heart attack for which I tried for 15 minutes to revive him, praying, crying wondering why this had to happen.. Since then I knew that this would be the career for me, I’ve broadened my knowledge and linked up with training partner and friend Coach Isreal Gonzalez. He shares the same passion as I do, keeps and open mind to various training methods, and has been highly successful in changing the lives of countless individuals. I find myself grateful for Crossfit as a company having such a great impact on the world in terms of health and fitness and grateful for Coach Iz and Tammy for me to be apart of such a wonderful box, I hope to work with everyone sometime and look forward to a bright and healthy future.
