Alright! Back from an AMAZING day up at CrossFit Long island City! So much fun, I wish we had had a better turnout, but next time we definitely will!
3 brutal WODs today.
Event 1:
1 mile run (through the snow and slush), followed by 5 minutes to find a 1RM overhead squat.
Total: 6:41 for the mile, followed by a 135lb OHS. PR for me! I felt really good about this event, but it was also humbling to have some amazing athletes run the mile in about 6:00 flat, followed by a 200+lb OHS. Simply inspiring.
Event 2:
AMRAP of 24kg (53lb) KB snatch, competition style. That means that you can only transfer hands once, you can’t put the bell down ever, and you can’t rest the bell anywhere except locked out in the overhead position. You can’t even touch your free hand to your body or you’re disqualified. We had real KB professionals judging, so they really knew what to look for.
Total: 62 reps. 30 with the right, and 32 with the left. DEFINITELY a PR for me. My hands were frozen and dead after this!
Event 3:
POWER PLAY
In 15 minutes, you have to do 50 wallball (20lb ball, 9 foot target) followed by 50 burpees, and then move as much poundage from floor to shoulders (power clean) as possible, finishing with 25 wallball (20lb ball, 11 foot target!!), and 25 burpees. You HAVE to finish the final wallballs and burpees in order for your cleans to count, so you REALLY had to strategize here.
I did this with 115lbs on the bar (the weight was up to you, your score is simply how much TOTAL WEIGHT you move), and finished just over 14 minutes (meaning I planned pretty well, I may have been able to sneak in a couple more cleans, but I’d rather play it safe than get a DNF).
I managed to get 25 cleans in the middle, totalling 2,875 total pounds moving from floor to shoulders. The last wallball KILLED me, and the burpees were no fun either. In other words, I LOVED IT!!!!
I hope we can get a good team out to the next event, I met a lot of awesome people, and saw some amazing things (both from firebreathers, and from 50+ year old participants!)
